Location

map of possible boathouse locationIn response to a charge by Congress to recommend a site for a boathouse on the Arlington side of the river, the National Park Service is currently studying four potential sites on the Virginia side of the Potomac. They have met with the Arlington County Board-appointed Water-based Recreational Facility Task Force to clarify the intended users of a new boathouse, seeking to clarify the necessary program elements and footprint of the building. See our latest newsletter for updates.

The Foundation favors a proposed site on 1.25 acres of the Virginia shore (see image). The site lies along what is called the Little River Channel across from Roosevelt Island, just South of Key Bridge. Directly upland from the site, across the George Washington Parkway, is the downtown section of Arlington known as Rosslyn. Rosslyn has its own metro station, available and proposed parking and a pedestrian walkway, which crosses above the parkway.
